Share my data? OK, but where?

My data are finalised, documented, ready to be shared... But how do I know where to deposit scientific data? Here is a brief overview of the data repositories on offer!

Sharing your data will allow you to make your data known to the rest of the community or to share it with restricted access when legitimate exceptions governed by law require it.

To share your data in the most secure way possible, it is best to use a trusted data repository. This repository can be subject-specific or general.

Finding a repository: the steps

  • Consult the list of trusted thematic data repositories that was created by the Research Data College of the French Committee for Open Science.
  • Registries of repositories such as re3data, OAD (by discipline), OpenDOAR, or FAIRsharing.
  • If no thematic data warehouse is relevant to your discipline, you can use Lillodata, the data repository of the University of Lille.

Lillodata

Lillodata is based on and hosted within Recherche Data Gouv, a sovereign publishing solution for sharing and opening up data. Since summer 2022:

  • Members of research units affiliated with the University of Lille may deposit their data in this institutional space and choose the associated access rights (open access or restricted access to data).
  • Research units may request the creation of spaces to promote the data produced within the lab (the same applies to research projects, research teams, etc.).
  • A team at the university is dedicated to curating Lillodata data (adding metadata, checking the documentary quality of the deposit and checking the legal compliance of the deposit).

As of 1 July 2025, more than 120 datasets have been shared on Lillodata by researchers at the University of Lille's research units!
