Research data
We can provide support for all stages of the data lifecycle and for all disciplines.
As part of funded projects, it is now necessary to provide a Data Management Plan (DMP) within the first six months after the start of the project. The Data Management Plan is a document that specifies:
- the management of researchdata during and after a project;
- what data will be collected or generated;
- if the data will be disseminated in open access and how;
- how the data will be archived and preserved.
L'INIST provides researchers with the DMPOpidor platform. On this platform, you can find templates for data management plans, with recommendations on how to answer the questions.
Our support:
- Explanation of the issues surrounding this deliverable
- Reviewing and commenting on the DMP
- Providing the University of Lille recommandations (French only).
Making data FAIR refers to a set of best practices that is designed to ensure that research data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
Our support:
- Individualized assistance for each research project to identify and implement these best practices for your data or database.
It is recommended that the data necessary for validating the results be disseminated and freely accessible, except in specific cases where dissemination of the data could:
- hinder or prevent commercial or industrial exploitation
- compromise the protection of the people who were surveyed (personal data)
- endanger the completion of the research project
- violate intellectual property rights
Where to disseminate your data?
You can deposit your data in a data repository. The registry re3data.org allows you to search among 1500 repositories based on file types to be deposited, relevant disciplines, and deposit and consultation policies. Some repositories allow you to link datasets to a publication.
There are several types of repositories:
- disciplinary repositories, like Nakala (in the social sciences and humanities), Dryad...
- generalist repositories, like Zenodo or Recherche Data Gouv. These repositories allow you to deposit any type of file, with no size limitations. A DOI is automatically assigned to the data you deposit there to facilitate citation. They also allow you to choose how your various files are disseminated, in particular by setting an embargo period.
The University of Lille has its own institutional space on Recherche Data Gouv: Lillodata
Lillodata is an institutional space within the national data repository Recherche Data Gouv, a sovereign publication solution for sharing and opening up data. Since the summer of 2022:
- Members of University of Lille research units can deposit their data in this institutional space and choose the associated access rights (open access or restricted access to data)
- The research units can request the creation of spaces to promote the data produce within the lab (the same is true for research projects, a research team, etc.)
- A team is dedicated to curating data deposited in Lillodata (adding metadata, checking the documentary quality of the deposit and checking the legal compliance of the deposit). A curation report is systematically sent after the deposit and before validation and publication online.
In the context of funded projects (ANR, European Commission), there are numerous expectations related to open science and data management. We support you in better understanding and applying these expectations, from the project's planning stage through its completion.
We also support lab directors in gaining a better understanding of data management practices within their research units or in establishing data governance at the level of their research unit. To this end, several approaches are possible:
- Identification of a data ambassador within the research unit
- Conducting surveys on data management practices
- Development of a Data Management Plan for the research unit
- Development of best practices and recommendations tailored to the research unit and its disciplinary fields
- Customised training and awareness-raising activities for the research unit

To support you, we offer several types of assistance:
- Personalised individual support. Examples:
- review and comments on the open science aspects of a project submission,
- review and comments on a data managment plan,
- work on making a database FAIR...

- Awareness-raising activities
- Organisation of seminars by the Fabrique de la Science ouverte to identify issues and discover platforms
- Fresque des données de recherche ouvertes (open research data mural activity) to understand the issues related to managing and sharing data
- Serious games to learn about the issues and best practices (e.g. Gopendore)
