Theses: Open science prize
Call for entries for the second edition of the Open science prize for theses!

The French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Committee for Open Science have launched the 2025 edition of the Open science prize for theses.
The prize, which includes a trophy and a personal award of €2,500, aims to highlight and encourage open science practices in doctoral students' research work.
In order to take into account the constraints linked to the disciplines and the level of sensitivity of the data used, the prize is divided into three categories:
- science and technology,
- medicine and biology/healthcare,
- humanities and social sciences.
The jury reserves the right to determine the number of awards per category, and to add a “multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary” category if necessary.
In order to participate:
- The thesis has to have already been defended and disseminated in open access.
- The diploma awarded must meet the legal definition of a doctoral degree in France (excluding thèses d’exercice or professional theses for medicine, pharmacy, surgery-dentistry, and veterinary medicine).
- The award is aimed at early-career researchers who defended their theses recently, between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2024. In order to apply, it is necessary to supply the national thesis number (Numéro National de Thèse, or NNT) and the report from the defense.
Be aware: if you already applied for the 2024 edition, you can't try again this year!
If you meet all these conditions, and if principles of open science were applied during your thesis, don't hesitate to submit your application!
As a reminder, among the winners of the 2024 edition was Benoît Verhaege, who received his PhD from the University of Lille!
️Applications are open until noon on 23 June 2025.
To prepare your application you can use the forms (French only) in odt format ou docx format.
